Case Study: Insecticidal net traps against Popillia Japonica

May 12, 2022 | Case Studies

In cooperation with I.P.L.A. - Institute for Wood Plants and the Environment - we developed and realised insecticide net traps for the direct killing of adults of Popillia Japonica, an insect that is very harmful to horticultural and vegetable crops; these traps aim to lower the population level of the insect and contain its spread. These are innovative umbrella 'cages' that can each cull up to 26,000 adults per day.

The damage that Popillia Japonica causes is not limited to agricultural crops but also affects municipal green areas, vegetable gardens and private gardens; For this reason, various regions including Piedmont are also raising awareness among citizens to report the presence of this insect in areas where its presence is not yet known. For more information, we refer to the document prepared by the Piedmont Region's Phytosanitary and Technical Services Sector: Campaign to counter the spread of Popilia Japonica
